Job Description, Coordinator for Security
Role Description
In dependence on God, the aim of the Coordinator for Security is to wholeheartedly glorify Jesus Christ, seeking to spread a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples through Jesus Christ by being the primary person for creating and maintaining security and emergency response policies and procedures, and for overseeing volunteer recruitment and training in these areas. Coordinators shall maintain a Christian spirit of love and service toward the Bethlehem staff, congregation, and those we serve, in accordance with the church’s vision and philosophy of ministry.
Responsibilities for Specific Areas of Ministry:
- Perform all security and emergency response duties assigned by the Director for Operations to include:
- Develop, coordinate and train a team of security volunteers who are able to respond to situations as appropriate, following the written policies and procedures set out for them. Have a security presence through volunteers for all scheduled weekend worship services.
- Be security conscious regarding persons entering church properties during weekend worship services. When appropriate, work to develop a growing security consciousness among the staff and volunteers.
- In coordination with the Executive Director for Ministries, develop written policies and procedures regarding security, emergency response, team composition and responsibilities.
- Work in close coordination with other church staff to ensure all security and emergency response requirements are met in a responsive manner.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Volunteer supervision only.
Other Duties:
- The Coordinator will carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the church from time to time.
- Provide an annual update to the Finance and Properties Administrators overviewing major upcoming projects, projected costs, and the level of urgency
Qualifications
- The Coordinator will have the vision and organizational skills necessary to work effectively within the context of a large church with multiple staff members and ministries.
- The Coordinator will strictly maintain appropriate confidentiality according to the guidelines set forth in Bethlehem’s Employee Handbook and Relational Commitments.
- The Coordinator must sign our Employee Handbook Acknowledgement Form and must comply with all applicable church policies.
- The Coordinator will give servant-hearted support to his/her specific area of ministry as well as to the broader needs of Bethlehem’s church office and ministry.
- The Coordinator will recognize volunteers as valuable co-laborers in ministry and will be proactive, prayerful, and persistent in the recruiting connected to his/her role (if applicable).
- The Coordinator will have the ability to physically perform the responsibilities of the job, including the physical stamina needed to work at a steady pace for up to 4 hours at a time without a break.
- The Coordinator will have some previous level of familiarity with basic security policies and procedures at a comparable level, and be able to adopt them to the needs of a church in an urban setting.
