Philosophy of Ministry

In dependence on God, the aim of the Administrator for Properties is to whole-heartedly glorify Jesus Christ, by providing oversight for and development of all things relating to the church’s equipment, vehicles and properties. The Administrator shall maintain a Christian spirit of love and service toward the Bethlehem staff, congregation, and those we serve, in accordance with the church’s vision and philosophy of ministry.

Role Description

The Administrator for Properties will seek to maximally use and steward the resources God has given Bethlehem Baptist Church by overseeing the safe, efficient, and effective use of the church properties. The Administrator for Properties will support the church by utilizing his or her skills and knowledge to maintain cleanliness, care for our building’s infrastructure, communicate and manage our future needs, and ensure that our spaces are used efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities for Specific Areas of Ministry:

Facilities Oversight

  1. Oversee the use, maintenance, and upkeep of all owned and rented church properties and vehicles
    1. Train, manage, and schedule the custodial staff to ensure that the building is adequately cleaned and organized
    2. Oversee all service and vendor contracts relating to buildings, grounds, and transportation
    3. Work with ministries and approved outside organizations in planning events to provide support and direction about how to utilize and navigate our church
    4. Think strategically about how space is used and provide suggestions for improvement
  2. Manage the building use calendar including approval of building use requests, seeing that the calendar is kept accurate and free of conflicts
  3. Develop and refine systems and procedures for providing personal and facility security, and appropriate response to emergency situations
  4. Develop, maintain, and appropriately communicate facilities policies in Google Drive
  5. Participate in the renewal of insurance contracts as part of the Insurance Team and provide information about our properties and appropriate coverage
  6. The Administrator for Properties may be asked to attend Financial and Property Administrators’ meetings

Building Maintenance

  1. Identify, plan, and execute projects either in-house, or through outside contractors
  2. Maintain the church HVAC systems by performing regular repairs and maintenance
  3. Perform routine checks of fire extinguishers, AEDs, and security devices
  4. Complete necessary wall repairs and painting projects as needed
  5. Complete basic electrical repairs, including the replacement of fixtures, et cetera
  6. Complete plumbing repair related to wear and tear and manageable projects
  7. Other construction projects may be necessary from time to time, including carpentry, flooring, the assembly and installation of equipment, et cetera.

Budget Management

  1. Create and manage the annual Buildings & Properties budget
  2. Provide an annual update to the Finance and Properties Administrators overviewing major upcoming projects, projected costs, and the level of urgency
  3. Monitor cumulative custodial staff hours on an ongoing basis
  4. Oversee purchase of equipment and materials as needed

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Building & Properties

    1. All Custodial staff
    2. Coordinator for Facilities Infrastructure
    3. Coordinator for Kitchen Ministries
    4. Coordinator for Weddings
  3. Supervisor Responsibilities:
    1. Participates in interviewing, hiring, and training employees
    2. Participates in job description creation
    3. Sets and manages expectations for other B&P staff members
    4. Conducts annual performance evaluations and provides regular performance feedback
    5. Facilitates conflict resolution
    6. Approves employee time cards
    7. Approves paid time-off requests

Other Duties:

  1. The Administrator will carry out such other duties as may be assigned by the church

Qualifications

An appropriate combination of education and experience amounting to more than 5 years total is required.

Licenses and Certifications

  1. Class 2-B Boiler’s license required within 1 year of hire
    1. We are able to provide onsite training
  2. Minimum 5 years Experience in a construction industry/trade
    1. Familiarity with general building techniques
    2. Knowledge of building codes
    3. An understanding of building infrastructure, including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC
    4. The ability to prioritize responsibilities and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner

Education

  1. Undergraduate degree preferred, but not required

  1. Meet the spiritual and character qualifications of deacon as found in 1 Timothy 3:8–13 and to exhibit the fruit of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22
  2. Model servant leadership and exhibit a helpful, joyful attitude
  3. Sustain a vital, growing relationship with the Lord through personal and corporate worship, study of God’s Word, prayer, and regular, ongoing fellowship with believers
  4. Seek to undertake duties in the power of the Holy Spirit, undergirded with prayer, guided by the Scriptures, and manifesting the character of Christ for the glory of God
  5. Understand, endorse, and teach, without reservation, the church’s biblical and theological teaching as expressed in Bethlehem’s Elder Affirmation of Faith

Church Member

  1. Be a member in good standing of Bethlehem Baptist Church or, if not a member when called to the church, become a member as soon as possible, ideally completing the membership process within three (3) months of the date that employment begins.
  2. While ensuring first loyalty is to God and the Word, support the leadership of the church generally and specifically for one’s area of ministry. Strive to maintain positive and fruitful relationships with other Bethlehem employees, members, and leaders. While concerns or differences of opinion may arise, all employees will communicate in a biblical manner and abide by appropriate supervisory direction and any final determinations of the Council of Elders.
