Brief Testimony of Conversion and Present Relationship With the Lord
I was very blessed to grow up in a Christian home. My family was at church nearly every time the church doors were open. One of those occasions was a missionary conference when I was 7. It was at that time that I asked Jesus to forgive my sins. When I was in my teens, I better understood how my sin separated me from God and also that I needed to surrender my life to him, so I committed my life to the Lord then.
Bethlehem Ministry Experience
Much of what I have done (and enjoy doing) would not be considered formal leadership positions, but tasks that are more behind the scenes and as I try to be helpful. If I see a need, I try to help and fill that need—big or small—either personally or by connecting a person in need with someone who can help.
I volunteered as an Awana secretary for 12 years for two different programs. I trained five commanders and many leaders who came in and out of those roles while I served. I also did some recruitment. I initiated providing scholarships to families who couldn’t afford the cost of the program.
For 11 years, I have been the director/co-director of a homeschool summer sports program that serves around 150 children each summer. I am responsible for the full program except for actually setting up the fields. For five years, I facilitated a homeschool mom’s support group, and I am currently in the process of starting a support group for those with chronic Lyme disease. I have been the treasurer for two homeschool co-ops.
One volunteer example within Bethlehem is serving as the “water lady” for the Sr High Sunday School class for the past three years. I have taken this role intentionally to find students each year who will assume responsibility for the role and serve their peers.
Expression of Desire to Fill the Office of Deacon?
I have a deep desire to care for the Body, and I have an even deeper desire to see members (attendees) of the Body using their individual and unique gifts, talents, and abilities to serve and care for others in the Body. Of all the volunteering I have done, I have never been as excited nor felt that a ministry opportunity better fit my personal interests and abilities as serving as a Deacon on the Practical Helps Team.
