Jason is our Pastor for Preaching & Vision at Bethlehem. He is both a product of Bethlehem and clearly reflective of its “DNA” in his convictions and activities. He has a visible love for God, for his Word, and for shepherding people.
Jason also deeply loves his family. Jason has been married to his wife, Cara, since 1999 and they have four children. Their two girls are Gracie and Allie and their two boys are Jonathan and David. During the Spring semester of 2010, Jason taught at the Evangelical Theological College of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, while he and Cara completed the adoption of their two sons from Ethiopia.
Jason testifies that he accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior when he was 12 years old, as he came to understand God’s gracious work of salvation. Throughout his high school and college years, the Lord progressively subdued Jason’s heart and affections, and claimed his heart as His throne. The watershed experience of Jason’s life occurred in his sophomore year of college, when God called him to ministry. Prior to this point, he had never even remotely desired to be in full-time ministry. After this point, ministry became the consuming desire of his heart. God has equipped Jason through the Holy Spirit, godly mentors, and college and seminary training for service in the kingdom as a herald of the gospel. Jason is driven by a supreme and overarching passion for God’s glory. Through the proclamation of the gospel of God in word and deed, he desires to see the worship of God spread to all the nations of the world.
This passion for God’s glory drove Jason to go deep and hard in studying the gospel he holds so dearly! Jason holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree awarded in 2007 and a Master of Divinity degree in 2002—both from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His Bachelor of Science degree was from Oklahoma Wesleyan in 1998. Notably, in terms of his Bethlehem “DNA,” he was a student (vocational elder training), apprentice, and teacher during the period from August 1999 to August 2001 at The Bethlehem Institute. While Jason loved the academic realm, he always found himself leaning toward the church at every step of the way.
God met that desire and gave Jason the opportunity to put his rigorous education into practice in many different contexts for the sake of the church. He has served as Bethlehem College and Seminary's Associate Professor of New Testament. Prior to that, he served as Interim Pastor at the Parkway Baptist Church of Natchez, Mississippi. In this capacity, he preached Sunday morning and Sunday night sermons. Before that, he provided Pulpit Supply and Teaching for the Louisiana Baptist Convention and served as the preacher and Dean of Chapel at Louisiana College. From 2002 to 2006 he was Pastor of the Orville Baptist Church of Pleasureville, Kentucky, and during the summer of 2001 he taught at the Cameroon Baptist Theological Seminary in Africa.
