Share your testimony. How did God draw you to faith in Christ?
I was raised in a mainstream Protestant church, but pointedly rejected my parents’ faith and came to call myself an atheist in my teens. God used a variety of circumstances (including a car accident and C.S. Lewis’s writings) to humble and draw me back to himself in my later high-school years. The summer before college, I responded to the gospel when it was presented to me in a compelling and personal manner. Since then, I've confessed Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and been awed and thankful to experience undeserved blessings, grow in faith, and see spiritual fruit in my life. Jenny and I have been Bethlehem members for 11 years.
Why do you want to be a Deacon? I love God's people and am excited for the opportunity to serve Bethlehem by facilitating prayer ministry at the North Campus. It’s profound to me that Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17), and James says, “You do not have, because you do not ask” (James 4:2). Over the years, I've seen many people experience freedom and growth as a result of God's power, and I long to see more!
Are you currently serving at Bethlehem in a ministry area? Yes: I’m a small group mentor for High School (Sundays) and Middle School (Wednesdays) and am on the leadership team for “Draw Near” Prayer & Worship gatherings. I previously co-led and hosted small groups in our home, and at our former church I served on the prayer ministry team for many years.
